Thank you for the help.
I am using a basic mail merge from an excel document to a word template to create a letter. My merge uses about 10 fields successfully with no issues. I attempted to add two additional fields and have ran into some issues. Both fields use numbers. Examples would be Number 1= "2806426" but when merged into Word it is giving me "9/24/9583" The second filed example would be "104513-860390" and in word it is giving me "12:00:00 AM". I have changed the excel format trying "general" and "text" to format the cells with no changes to final merge field. I have also tried to merge the field at the end of the document to see if the Word document was completing the formatting on its end but I receive the same value no matter where I place the merge field. I have other number merges that work just fine. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. |

Your problem suggests you have mixed data types in the columns concerned. See the Mailmerge Data Format Problems topic in the Mailmerge Tips & Tricks thread at the top of this forum: https://www.msofficeforums.com/mail-...ps-tricks.html

Thank you. This was more than informative. For anyone looking in the future, my issue was caused by hidden rows. This is a working sheet with hundreds of rows and we only sort the ones that are currently being worked on. When I added the two columns and selected the format as "general" or "text" somehow it was not formatting row one. Once I expanded and showed all rows I was able to see that row 1 was still formatted as "date". Once that was changed to general all merged as it should.
