Pleased to have found this Forum, and seek some advice here.

I am not sure what has caused the issue I am about to relate.

[B]PC: HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF.

OS Windows 10 Professional: x64

I had been using Office Enterprise for some time.

I had a problem of some sort and was on a Forum which suggested alternatives to use,

Mobile Office or TextMaker.

I downloaded TextMaker and, later, I needed to backup my Android A50 Galaxy on the PC’s Desktop.

Now, I cannot open files which were created in Word;

Desktop/Documents/Downloads.

For example, on the Desktop, I click on a Folder and it opens.

I click on a file created in Word, is show up as:

Name Date modified Type Size

Concrete.docx 29/07/2021 11.33 DOCX File 12KB.

I double Click on it and it appears at bottom left of screen as: Concrete.docx

If you can’t see the Maximise icon in the Title bar of the document, right click the Title Bar and click Move.
This will change your cursor to a 4 sided ‘Arrow’ cursor which may allow you to move the minimised document so you can resize/maximise the Window.

However, prior to reading your response, I uninstalled TextMaker in Settings.

Then, in Settings, I chose Microsoft recommended defaults', thinking that would solve the problem.

I can now open, for example, Concrete.docx. But when I try to 'Save', I get, 'Wordpad does not support all of the features of this document's format. Some content might be missing or displayed improperly'.

Select one of the 'Word' documents in File Explorer and click the Properties tab in the Quick Access Toolbar.
Click the Change tab and select Word > OK. If it isnt showing, click More apps to locate it. Use the Look for another app on this PC if necessary.
Select Word and click OK.
Your Word .docx files should now open in Word by default as they should do instead of Wordpad.
